What We Look For in Curators
Recs is built by curators with real taste and local knowledge. Here's what we look for when reviewing applications.
The Qualities That Matter
You don't need millions of followers. You need a genuine point of view and the drive to share it.
Genuine Taste
You have a real point of view on what's worth going to. You don't just share everything — you share the best.
Scene Knowledge
You know what's happening in your city. You're plugged into the venues, the artists, and the community.
An Audience That Trusts You
People already come to you for recommendations — whether that's friends, followers, or a growing community.
A Clear Niche
You focus on something specific — live music, food events, nightlife, art shows, wellness, or another scene you know deeply.
Consistency
You're actively sharing events, not just occasionally. The best curators post regularly and keep their calendars fresh.
A Community Mindset
You want to help people discover great experiences, not just promote yourself. Curating is about serving your audience.
What Makes a Strong Application
A few things that help your application stand out.
Fill out your social media links — we want to see your existing presence and voice
Have a link in bio set up — a Linktree, Beacons, or similar shows you're already directing your audience to events and recommendations
Get specific about your thing. 'Underground house music in Chicago' hits different than 'I like going out'
Have an active online presence. We look at your Instagram, TikTok, or website to understand your style — an active link in bio shows you're already guiding your audience to events
Quality over follower count. An engaged audience matters more than a large, passive one
