Sign in to Recs with a passkey

For curators

You can now sign in to Recs with a passkey. Instead of typing a password, you confirm it's you with Face ID, Touch ID, or your password manager, and you're in.

Why passkeys

  • Faster: one tap or a glance, no typing.
  • Nothing to remember or reset.
  • Safer: a passkey only works on Recs, so it can't be phished or reused on another site.
  • It syncs to your other devices through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or 1Password.

How to add a passkey

  • Sign in to Recs on the web and open Account & Security.
  • Open the Passkeys card and choose Add a passkey.
  • Enter your current password. We ask so nobody else can add a passkey to your account.
  • Save the passkey with Face ID, Touch ID, or your password manager.

Your passkey shows up on the card named after where it's saved, like iCloud Keychain or 1Password. You can rename it or remove it any time. If you remove one, also delete it from your password manager so it stops offering it.

Signing in

On the sign-in page, tap the username field and your device offers your Recs passkey right there, or choose Sign in with a passkey. Your password still works too, so a passkey is one more way in, not a replacement.

Using a password manager? Our sign-in and signup forms now work properly with 1Password, iCloud Keychain, and other password managers, so they fill and save your Recs login the way you'd expect. Passkey sign-in inside the Recs iPhone app is coming in a future update.
